Facing a recovering market in 2009, the Group set the targets for refining segment to guarantee safety, ensure growth and create profit. Production and operation was organized in a way conductive to maintaining safe, stable and long-cycle operation, deepening downstream processing, adjusting the structure, cutting cost and registering better indicators. The Group successfully accomplished its mission to recover from loss and achieve good performance.
In 2009, the accumulated crude oil throughput totaled 184 million tonnes, up by 6.56% y-o-y. The production of gasoline, kerosene and diesel rose y-o-y by 5.18% to 114.55 million tonnes. Light chemical feedstock output reached 26.96 million tonnes, gaining 15.77% from the previous year. High octane number gasoline accounted for 89.3% of total gasoline production, a y-o-y growth of 0.7 percentage point.
In 2009, the Group made significant progress in terms of principal economic and technical indicators. Refining yield increased by 0.49 percentage point to 94.53. Light products yield was 75.54%, up 0.76 percentage point. Comprehensive energy consumption fell to 61.18 kg standard oil equivalent per tonne, down 2.71 kg. Processing loss went down by 0.10 percentage point to 0.65%.
In 2009, refining facilities were successfully added or revamped in Fujian, Tianjin, Qingdao and Dongxing branches or subsidiaries. The Group has become the third largest refiner in the world in terms of processing capacity.
The Group continued to improve its crude storage and transportation facilities. Construction of the second phase of Baisha Bay oil depot project and Heshi crude pipeline were completed as scheduled.
Product mix was optimized. High value-added product yield and proportion of high octane number gasoline steadily increased.
Refined oil products marketed by the Group itself gained more market share and began to have increasingly larger influence upon the market. The company was the asphalt supplier for many national important projects such as renovation of Chang’an Avenue for National Day celebration, welcome passage of China Pavilion of Shanghai Expo, Sui Bridge of Yangtze River, Hongqiao transport hub in Shanghai and Yulin-Shenmu Expressway. The Group also won the bid for supplying emulsified asphalt for Beijing-Shanghai and Harbin-Dalian high-speed railways. In addition, SINOPEC-branded asphalt entered the international market and realized a bigger presence.
