Non-conventional oil & gas resources are important potential development areas for Sinopec. The Group’s focus mainly goes to the CBM and shale gas in North China area and southern area of China. Sinopec is actively getting itself prepared for the development and use of shale gas. It is also the earliest company in China to bring in CBM exploration technology and make the successful exploration.

In term of clean development and use of coal, Sinopec has built Fischer-Tropsch synthesis pilot facility with the capacity of 3000 tons/year in ZRCC.

Partial replacement of fossil energy with biomass liquid fuel can not only bring energy products like transportation fuels, and but also helps to fulfill zero carbon emission. Sinopec has involved itself in fuel ethanol and bio-diesel technology and has already started R&D efforts of cellulosic ethanol technology and microalgae-to-diesel technology.

Sinopec has accumulatively sold ethanol gasoline 29.2 million tons and utilized modified fuel ethanol 2.98 million tons Since 2006; it has successfully developed bio-diesel production technology through SRCA method and completed its commercialization experiment; it has started cooperation with CAS (Chinese Academy of Science) in the fields of new energy to jointly research and develop microalgae-to-biodiesel technology.
